Information on BB 32.5 Cement
BB Cements is a General-purpose cement CEM (V/A (S-V) 32.5N in 50kg bags.
BB Cement is an environmentally friendly product with a 50% reduced Co2 emissions.
Manufactured according to SABS and EN 197 (CEM V/A 32.5N standards and is accredited by SABS under permit no. 7862.
Tertiary blend made up by homogenizing Slagment, Ash and Ordinary Portland Cement in controlled proportions.
SABS Specification for CEM V/A (S-V) 32.5N:
1. Ordinary Portland Cement (Clinker) 40%-64%
2. Blastfurnace Slag (Slagment) 18%-30%
3. Fly Ash (Ash) 18%-30%
4. Additive 0%-5%
BB Cement Durability
Factors affecting durability are:
Expansion:
Pure Cement expands from free lime and magnesium. The amount of expansion is governed by the amounts of free lime and magnesium. All products blended into our cement are inert and do not contribute to expansion and the cement will expand 50% less than Pure Cement and will therefore last longer.
Sulphate Attack:
Attack from sulphates like sewage and some soil conditions that have high sulphate cause concrete to deteriorate. The main reaction between the sulphate and cement is the alumina content of the cement.
BB Cement’s alumina content is 50% less than Pure Cement and the possibility of sulphate attack are reduced by 50% and will last longer.
Chloride attack:
This situation arises when there exists salts in the sand or water. The salts migrate to the steel reinforcing bars in the concrete and cause rusting. The migration is ionic and the chloride ion migrates to the steel. When the rust builds up the concrete will eventually crack and disintegrate.
The addition of Slagment and Fly Ash to BB Cement significantly slows down the rate of migration of chloride ions which will ensure the rate of corrosion of steel and the life of the concrete will be extended.
Heat of Hydration:
The cement strength development reaction is an exothermic reaction which results in heat buildup.
Heat build up results in expansion which results in cracking.The addition of Slagment and Fly Ash in BB Cement reduce the heat of hydration significantly and the expansion of the concrete is reduced.
